Can you read music?
Some musicians can’t read music and they get by with what they have taught themselves. Many of them though have found that not being able to read music has given them limitations in playing music, and they wish that they had learnt.
Not being able to read music especially shows you up when you are playing with other musicians. They can be discussing the music written down, and it can go over your head. You feel isolated, and a bit out of it. It is also easier to transpose music for different instruments, and different keys with a knowledge of written music.
Many say that if they would have had the chance again, that they would have preferred to of learnt to read music. They say that it would have made their music life a lot easier for them. With music reading, it’s true that, the earlier you start to learn to read music the easier it is. It is in fact and ideal gift to pay for a course in music reading, for any youngster you know who is musically minded.

The music reading lessons will go through how music is written on paper. It shows you typical music sheets and you will be taught the various ways to write down notes and chords. When you can read music, you know what the notations mean, read what the timing signature of the music is. You will learn about the Grand Staff, the treble clef, and the bass clef. These are symbols situated on sheet music lines. When you have mastered music reading, you can interpret what these symbols mean, and what is required of you to play.
It is certainly a joy to hear a well-practiced, tight band playing live music. “Tight” is a description of the music playing exactly on time and precisely as required by the composer. This is music to the ears. Sorry for the pun again.
